Artist Statement
Why do I create? Because an inner compulsion demands it.
Why do I fashion abstract figures? Because I am searching for
the essence of what it is to be human in terms that are not individualized
but universal and expressed in an artistically meaningful way.
What do I hope to say? If I have not reached the viewer
intuitively, then I have failed in my endeavor for art is not
verbal and should not need to be explained. Involved theoretical
treatises by an artist explaining his creations are as stultifying
to me as governmental imperatives telling an artist what message
his work must convey. Essentially, for me, each piece poses
a problem in design, skill of execution, and the characteristics
of the material; the expressive content flows intuitively from
my psyche and my soul, and, in the end, says a great deal about
the world I live in and my response to it.
