Glenn Spelis & Reba Browning

The husband and wife team of Glenn Spelis and Reba Browning collaborate to create modern metal sculpture for the home and garden. Their company, RGDesigns, was formed in 2000 when they began making small tabletop pieces as well as works up to nine feet tall. Reba usually initiates a design, and after they work out the details together, Glenn does the fabrication using his skills in welding and metalworking. When he is finished, the sculpture goes back to her for the finishing process.

The finished products are sleek, modern and nonrepresentational which can be interpreted from a variety of viewpoints. They evoke a sense of calm and refinement. The couple strives to design pieces in such a way that the beauty of the final setting is enhanced by the addition of the art.

The artists get their inspirations from many different sources including shapes in nature, the setting of the sculpture and the unique shape and texture of the piece of metal itself. Even though sheets of steel and pipe are the basis of many works, the couple does find that foraging through metal scrap yards is a productive activity. Many times a quirky castoff rescued from the recycle bin can provide a perfect accent to give the sculpture a personality.

The couple regularly exhibits in the membership shows in the Dallas area and at Grayson County College in Denison. They also donate pieces to local charitable auctions where they live in Pottsboro, TX.
