And This Mystery Explore
45" x 36"
encaustic, glass and steel

Silvia has been working as an artist in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metropolitan area for the past thirty one years.  She grew up in the dramatic and diverse lush ecosystem of the St. John's River near St. Augustine, Florida and the contrasting sparse landscape at the foot of the Superstition Mountains in Arizona.

Her work reflects contrasts and an emotional connection to her environment.

Encaustic is the ancient painting technique  from 5th century  B.C. Greece.   This   process  involves melting beeswax adding resin and pigment for color. This medium is applied using a brush or pouring to a wood surface. I build up the wax to make a very textured surface and contrast this against wax applied in a smooth manner. I am charmed with the range of textures, unpredictability,  smell and versatility of the medium.  All of which excite me as an artist.
